1. Important Cultural Etiquette

Before learning the phrases, keep these cultural tips in mind:

  • Take off your shoes before entering the prayer area.

  • Dress modestly — shoulders, knees, and chest covered.

  • Non-Muslims are generally not allowed inside most mosques, except famous ones like Hassan II Mosque (Casablanca).

    Meaning: I want to enter the mosque.

  • Hada masjid 9dim bezaf. 
    Meaning: This mosque is very old.

  • Masjid Hassan II kbir bezaf.
    Meaning: Hassan II Mosque is very big.

  • Shkon limam?
    Meaning: Who is the imam?

  • Kayna ziyara dyal lmasjid?
    Meaning: Is there a mosque tour available?


6. Phrases for Respect & Apologies

  • Sma7 liya, ma3raftsh 
    Meaning: Sorry, I didn’t know.

  • 3afak, fin na9dar naw9af?
    Meaning: Excuse me, where can I stand?

  • Mabghitsh nsada3kom.
    Meaning: I don’t want to disturb you.
