Learn Moroccan Arabic for Free with the Daily Darija Podcast
Quick answer: To learn Moroccan Arabic (Darija) for free with the Daily Darija podcast, study each episode in 4 steps: 1) listen once without reading, 2) listen again with the free transcript, 3) repeat the key phrases out loud, 4) reuse them in sentences of your own. About 15 minutes a day is enough, because Darija is learned shwiya b shwiya (شوية بشوية, SHWI-ya b SHWI-ya) → “little by little”.
Example: hear Bghit wa7d 9ahwa, 3afak (I’d like a coffee, please), read it, say it five times, then use it at your next café ☕
Learning Moroccan Arabic (Darija) doesn’t have to cost a thing. With the Daily Darija Podcast, you can start learning for free, improving your listening, reading, and speaking skills while exploring real-life Moroccan conversations.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or brushing up your Darija, this podcast is a free, practical, and fun way to learn Moroccan Arabic every day.

How to Learn Darija Online Free: The 4-Step Method for Each Episode
In my classes, I see that free learners do not fail because of the material. They fail because they press play and hope. Here is the exact method I give my students for every single episode 🎙️
Step 1: Listen once without reading
Close your eyes or look away from the screen. Do not try to understand everything. Just catch the melody and the words you already know, like salam (سلام) → “hello” or wakha (واخا) → “okay”.
This first blind listen trains your ear to real speed. It feels hard, and that is the point.
Step 2: Listen again with the transcript
Now play the episode a second time and read along. Every time you think “oh, that is what they said”, your brain connects a sound to a word.
Underline the sentences you want to keep. For a deeper version of this step, see how to study with the Darija podcast with transcripts.
Step 3: Repeat the key phrases out loud
Pick 5 phrases, no more. Pause after each one and say it out loud, copying the rhythm. Exaggerate the hard sounds: 3 (ع), 7 (ح), 9 (ق), kh (خ), gh (غ).
Example: Ma kanfhemsh, 3awed 3afak (ما كنفهمش، عاود عفاك) → “I don’t understand, repeat please”. Say it until it sounds like one word.
Step 4: Reuse the phrases in your own sentences
Change one word and the phrase becomes yours. From Bghit wa7d 9ahwa (بغيت واحد قهوة) → “I want a coffee”, you can make Bghit wa7d atay (a tea) or Bghit lma (water).
Write three sentences about your own life, say them out loud, and use one with a real Moroccan the same week. This is where listening becomes speaking 🗣️
Your 15-minute episode routine
| Step | Time | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Listen without reading | 3 min | Catch the melody and the words you know |
| Listen with the transcript | 4 min | Connect each sound to a word |
| Choose 5 key phrases | 1 min | Keep only what you will really use |
| Repeat them out loud | 4 min | Train your mouth on 3, 7, 9, kh, gh |
| Write 3 sentences of your own | 3 min | Turn the episode into your own Darija |
| Next day: say the 5 phrases again | 2 min | Move them into long-term memory |
| End of the week: replay the episode | One full listen | Notice how much more you understand |
| Use one phrase with a real person | 1 min | Build confidence |
That is about 15 minutes on the day of the episode, which matches the 10–15 minutes a day I recommend above.

Mini-Dialogue: Reusing a Greetings Episode in Real Life
Here is what Step 4 looks like after a greetings and introductions episode. Sarah meets Youssef at a café in Rabat:
Youssef: Salam! Labas 3lik? — Hi! How are you?
Sarah: Labas, l7amdulillah. U nta? — Fine, thank God. And you?
Youssef: Bikhir. Shnu smitek? — Good. What’s your name?
Sarah: Smiti Sarah. U nta? — My name is Sarah. And you?
Youssef: Smiti Youssef. Mnin nti? — My name is Youssef. Where are you from?
Sarah: Ana mn Canada. Kant3llem ddarija m3a podcast. — I’m from Canada. I’m learning Darija with a podcast.
Youssef: Mzyan bezaf! Kathdri mzyan. — Very good! You speak well.
Sarah: Shukran! Ma kanfhemsh kolshi, walakin shwiya b shwiya. — Thanks! I don’t understand everything, but little by little.
🇲🇦 Cultural Note: Moroccans love it when a foreigner tries Darija. Even three sentences like these often get you a smile, a compliment and sometimes a free mint tea 😊
Common Mistakes When You Learn Darija for Free
- Jumping from one free resource to another. Pick the podcast as your base and stay with it for a few weeks before adding anything new.
- Reading the transcript from the first second. Listen blind first (Step 1). If you always read, your ear never learns to work alone.
- Only listening, never speaking. Step 3 feels strange at home, but it is the step that makes you speak in real life.
- Never reviewing old episodes. Replaying an episode at the end of the week is free and shows you real progress.
- Keeping too many words. Five phrases per episode that you really use beat thirty words in a notebook.
